Patrick's older brother Robert was a Wide Receiver at Tufts University in Boston. Robert served as the Quarterback for the 2001 Jefferson High School team. He passed for over 1100 yards. Although the team only won four games, it was the first time in over 8 year that the team won more than two games. It was also the first time that any Jefferson QB had passed for over 1000 yards in 8 years. Robert was selected as the Teams Offensive Player of the Year in 2001. In May 2006 Robert graduated from Tufts with a BS degree in Biology and Classics.

Patrick began playing football in Huntington West Virginia for the DC Express, a youth football team. In Huntington he played Center and Middle Linebacker. He was a team mate and friend to OJ Mayo, who is a NBA basketball player. Patrick's team won the Turf Bowl Championship, a regional title game that was played in the old Marshall University Stadium.
