Profile:
Captain Jack Stephen Menendez, U.S. Navy (ret), is a native of
Elizabeth, New Jersey and a graduate of the United States Merchant
Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. He sailed for three and
a half years as a licensed officer in the Merchant Marine before
taking a leave of absence for active duty in the Navy. He earned
his Surface Warfare Officer qualification onboard USS PARSONS
(DDG-33) in 1980 and his Naval Special Warfare qualification in
1982.

Highlights:

Throughout Captain Menendez’s naval career he served as a weapons
system officer, boilers division officer, and acting chief engineer
(1200 lb steam); and commanded SEAL platoons, Mobile Training Teams,
Patrol boat detachments, and Naval Special Warfare Task Units deploying
to Europe, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. He served
as the Executive Officer of a Special Boat Unit and a SEAL Team, and
commanded an overseas Naval Special Warfare Unit. His major staff
assignments included the Special Operations Division of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff, in the Pentagon, and the U.S. Special Operations
Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fl., where he served as the Director
of the Special Programs Assessment Division. Throughout his career
he participated in major military/contingency operations in Europe,
Central and South America, the Middle East, Southwest Asia and the
Pacific. .
Captain Menendez is a retired Naval Special Warfare officer with a
Joint Duty Sub-specialty. He has a Bachelors of Science Degree with
a major in Nautical Science and a minor in Marine Petroleum Operations;
and a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. He
is a distinguished graduate of the Surface Warfare Officers School
and the Army's Special Forces Language School, and a graduate of numerous
other military and civilian courses. He was a guest lecturer on counterterrorism
and anti-piracy actions for the National Sealift Training Program
for Captains and Chief Mates, and was a member of the Secretary of
Defense’s nuclear posture review of 1993-94. He currently sails
as a licensed deck officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine and is an independent
consultant on strategic planning, marine security and maritime affairs.
